Description of items on course recommended reading lists

We have described the items available for sale through The Book Stack as accurately as possible, making plain where items are on recommended reading lists for specific courses. However, changes to recommended readings for each course can be made up to the publication date of the course syllabus. If you order an item which subsequently does not appear on a course recommended reading list we will remove the item from your order without question at your request and you will not be charged for the item.

Books for sale – new or used

Books for sale are sold either new or used.

  • Books described as ‘new’ are brand new, unused copies.
  • Books described as ‘used’ are either good or very good quality secondhand copies without highlighting or annotations. They may have slightly scuffed covers, but are in overall good condition.
  • Books described as ‘used – damaged’ are items likely to have loose binding, badly bent covers or highlighting (either minimal or significant). When you order a ‘used – damaged’ book, we will always provide the best available copy from the copies available in stock. Damaged books are offered free of charge.
  • Books described as ‘used – donated’ are items donated for free by previous students. They may either be damaged or free of damage.  When you order a ‘used – damaged’ book, we will always provide the best available copy from the copies available in stock. Donated books are offered free of charge.

When you buy a book through The Book Stack you keep the book for the duration of your studies and beyond.

Books for lease

When you lease a book through The Book Stack you pay a significantly lower price than the price of the book new. The price you pay is the cost of the lease for 1 term (13 weeks). At the end of the lease period you return the book to The Book Stack. No money is refunded to you.

You must return the book to The Book Stack in a condition as near as possible to that in which the book was when you borrowed it. A certain amount of wear and tear is acceptable, but what is deemed acceptable will be determined by the Book Stack team member to whom you return the book.

While you lease a book from us, you are not allowed to highlight, annotate or in any other way mark the book either in pen or pencil. If you return any book at the end of the lease period which you have marked in any way, we will not accept the return and we will charge you the full cost of a replacement book bought new. You will be able to keep the book you have marked. If you mistreat the book so that it becomes excessively damaged, we will not accept the return and we will charge you the full cost of a replacement book. Again, you will be able to keep the book you have mistreated.

Placing an order

When you place an order to purchase or lease an item from The Book Stack, this represents an offer to us. Your order is only accepted by us, and the contract concluded, when we send e-mail confirmation that we have accepted your order. Any products on the same order which are not referenced in our confirmation e-mail do not form part of that contract.

If we cannot supply you with the items you have ordered, we will not process your order and will inform you of this via email.

Acknowledgement of an order

When you have completed your order you will be sent an e-mail confirmation. It will state what the products are on order, the total cost including VAT (where appropriate), and the fact that you have paid by credit card. If for any reason your order cannot be processed, a member of the Book Stack team will contact you to explain the nature of the difficulty.

Collection of an order

We do not offer shipping.  We only offer sales to students who will be students or who are current students at Bader College. Please do not order books through us if you wish to receive them before your arrival at Bader College. When you place an order with The Book Stack we will reserve the items you have ordered and make them available for collection from the day on which you commence your stay at Bader College.

The Book Stack administration is sited in the Library at Bader College. When your order is ready for collection, you will be sent an email with instructions about where to collect your order from.

Payment

You are able to pay for your order online through a credit card. Mastercard, Visa and American Express are accepted. The exact amount you will need to pay is detailed on the order confirmation we emailed you.

Cancelling a book order

You also have a right to cancel a book order within 14 days without giving any reason. This cancellation period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you collect your book order.

Items not in stock

If we do not have stock an book, stationery item or laboratory equipment item that you need, contact us and we will do our best to provide the item. If we unable to provide the item we will let you know why via email.

Returns

Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected if, for any reason, you wish to return a product bought from The Book Stack.

If you buy a book which you find you no longer need, either because you have dropped the course or because it is no longer used for your course, as long as you return the book to us in the same condition as when you bought it within three weeks of the start of the term in which you purchased the book, we will provide you with a full refund.

Specific conditions apply to the purchase of tickets for trips and events, or items made to order:

Trips and events

Students wishing to give up their spot on a trip or event may swap their ticket peer-to-peer but the student must do this themselves with ample time before departure or event and the students swapping their ticket must provide Student Services with the name of the person they are swapping with via email. In extreme circumstances, students who cannot swap their ticket with another student must meet with student services to be considered for a refund by the end of day at least two days prior to the trip or event.

Items made to order

Items made to order, for example hoodies, are non-refundable. Please check individual product entries for further information.

Book Buy-Back scheme

The college no longer operates a book buy back scheme. If you do not wish to keep any books that you purchase at the end of the term, these can be donated for future students and will be given to students on subsequent courses at no cost, as long as they are not heavily damaged.

Damaged goods

All items are accurately described on the website. When collecting your order you must inform us immediately if the condition of any item does not match its description. At this point we will offer a replacement.

By ordering a product you accept these terms and conditions. The terms and conditions are subject to change at any time, and it is your responsibility to check these terms and conditions regularly before ordering products in case there are any changes.
